I used to own one and can comment on it. It was a very nice headjoints but it has a slight wave to the lip plate that would make me want to roll in. I was using it on an American made body (Powell) and it threw off the intonation a bit. When using it on a Yamaha I did not have this problem with it though. For me, it had a nice sweeter more direct sound to it. After trying other headjoint (particularly a Williams and Nagahara) I realized that it just didn't have the colors and dept to it like I wanted, so I later sold it. I admit I am a bit of a headjoint junky, but for the past year I have been so happy with the two that I have now that I haven't wanted to try much of anything else. I was going to try and sell one of them, but I like both so much that I can't bring myself to part with one.
I do have a recording of me playing on the NRS1 if you would like to hear how it sounded with me playing it. Of course it will sound and react differently on different model bodies.
What flute will you be matching it up with? What kind of sound are you looking for? Sweet? Aggressive? Dark? Bright? Low medium or high resistance? Being that I am such a flute and headjoint junky I have tried A LOT of them, so I may be able to help you narrow it down on more of the style that you may be looking for. Let me know if I can help at all.
One place you should definitely contact is JL Smith. They don't sell Sankyo, but they have a very nice selection of new and used flute heads and will ship several of them out to you for trial. Talk to Liz, she will set you up with what you are looking for and is great at matching up the head that would suite what you are looking for best. She is great at that!
Another place that does carry Sankyo is the Flute Center of NY. Phil will set you up with whatever you would like to try.
He also carries used flute heads.
Hope that helps and you find what you are looking for. <Added>If you are going to try out the NRS1 then you might consider also trying the newer one by Sankyo which is the FT. I really liked that one. It was a tad darker in sound then the NRS1. Also, here are some pictures of the style of heads by Sankyo. The FT is not listed on there though.
