yesterday i was at a band dealy and there were 2 flute players who had a flute with a peculiar shaped embouchre plate. i did not ask them what it was for fear of looking stupid. but anyways, here's a (crude drawing) of what it looks like:

It was probably either a wing lip or a butterfly lip head. Wing lip heads pretty much direct the air for you, making it very easy to produce a sound, but limit color and volume changes. Butterfly lips have a cut out that is supposed to reduce air noise.

On second thought, it's probably a Drelinger "Free-Flo" head. It has the same purpose as the butterfly lip.
