A split E is not necessary to have, it is more of a convenience.
I personally don't like them but I am not going to elaborate in fear of starting a long debate. If the high E is a problem then I prefer a G donut instead of the added mechanism of the split E. I would recommend a Yamaha or an Azumi depending on what level your daughter is at. Nothing is wrong with Jupiter, I just feel that Yamaha especially is made more solid.

To answer the original poster's question: Yes, they are the same model. In the "511ES", the E means Split E and the S means Standard model. The "SP" means Silver Plated. It is the exact same flute your daughter's tutor is recommending.
You can find more information on Jupiter's website:

If possible, before buying it I would have it checked by a flute technician (or at least your daughter's tutor). If this is not possible, then figure that it might cost $100 to $200 or so to get it in proper playing condition. Of course, it might not need any work, but you never know.
Good luck!

I agree with Kara - Split E's aren't necessary.
Just like B-foots, gizmo keys, etc.
Good luck finding the perfect flute for your daughter though ;D

This is just to say thanks for the help. I have now bought a Jupiter flute for my daughter, and am grateful to this forum for informing me. I really didn't know how to interpret the flute name. I bought item no. 300083720071 on ebay.co.uk for a very good price: £79.37!
Best wishes to you all and again thanks for the interest in my situation, and the lively discussion. I also posted on another forum, but with no response.
