I had my braces for so long because i didnt loose all of my baby teeth until i was 16. haha. But dont worry about being joked on for having braces or glasses. A lot of kids start high school with braces and glasses, so you wont be any nerdier than any of them. Theres not much you can do about the braces, just practice and you can still beat out everyone else and get that first chair! Thats what i did. But if u are worried about being "nerdy" you should ask your eye doctor if you can get contacts. My mom is legally blind in both eyes and wears contacts. You can get perscription for one eye and non perscription for the other. But dont worry about seniors beating u up. Act like you know where you are going and what you are doing and they will prolly over look you. Good luck!

Your tone will be a little altered at first but DO NOT GIVE UP! I have been playing for ten years and I had braces three years ago but I persevered. You will get your tone back. My friend Russ stopped playing the cornet when he got braces which is understandable I guess but I have always secretly hated him for never picking it up again. Do you want your friends to secretly hate you? I doubt it. You'll be fine
