being childish is fun, grumpy-pants, and abusing this forum by calling a fellow musician stupid is rude, insulting and just not on, understood?

<Added>

How does it feel, picking on someone littler than you? And over the internet too!

If you are referringto my post...It is just my opinion that I saw it as being childish. Sorry if you choose not to agree. I did not call anyone member stupid. I was saying that I though that the TOPIC was stupid. Please read more closely before you jump down my throat. Also you just accused me of abusing this forum by calling a forum member a name (in which I did not) and did you not just call me grumpy-pants???? Please don't accuse me of something that I did not do and then turn around and do it yourself. THAT is childish.

<Added>

My mistake.. I said that the DEBATE was stupid, not the topic.

Doesn't you profile say you are 19? So, you think it is okay to pounce on another person and wrongly accuse them of something and then I am supposed to ignore it while you justify it because you are a kid? This is the real world, welcome to it.

jose-luis (and everyone else)
please watch this video (the entire video)

different instruments have different characteristics, but if this is seen as a handicap towards the goal of connecting with an audience with the art of playing that instrument than horizons can definately be broadened for the people who believe that. this is not a put-down mind you! please do not take it that way. it is only an invitation to see things differently, more possibilities. im sure there are a plethora of other not-so-common performances on youtube...that website is such a great resource and tool.

Flauta, I welcome your proposal to have a different regard to things and I believe yours is a positive approach.
I watched the 8:19 min of the video and no doubt the player is excellent and it does establishes a nice and good contact with the public.
But when I put the tuba as an example of an extreme opposite to the flute in expressiveness, I had a red light alarm light in my mind and I almost cancelled my post. But I did not, so I think I own an explanation.

I have nothing against the tube and I believe that all instruments in a symphonic orchestra have their place and their role in it. Otherwise they would not be there, as is the case of countless other instruments that do exist in real world but are normally not used in symphonic music.

Your Youtube example comes from another music realm -not necessarily a lesser one- but not the type of music I was thinking of when I posted .

I wanted to compare two winds (a rather difficult task) and I could not find a better example. I apologize to all those tubists and tuba lovers who may feel hurt by my unfortunate comment.

If I could go back in time and change my post, I would rather give the comparison based on keyboards and not winds, using the harpsichord and a modern piano as a good example of their different capabilities for musical expression. And I love baroque music and of course listen a lot to harpsichord music, but this rather ancient instrument simply lacks some features that are now normally found in modern musical expression, dynamics being one of them. That is what I wanted to express in my original post.

What a person brings to the instrument is themselves. Every flute or tuba or piano sounds really bad when I play it, but great when someone else who is at least moderate playing it. Why is that? I was a little scared to post my music on this web site, because frankly I don't like anything I play very much. I know that I not a bad musician, but when someone else plays they just sound better. Has anyone else ever noticed this phenomenon or do I just play that badly and should turn my flute into the one on micron's picture?

Ok, I know I am not horrible, but I don't think my music sounds as good when I play it, but when someone else plays even my piece that I wrote it suddenly sounds better? Does anyone know what I am saying here?

I have done this epxeriment where you take a song the other has wrote and play it, but add your intonation, and style and suddenly the piece comes to life for the other person. Try it sometime...

I get what you are saying. Just remember the saying that everyone is their own worst critic. I don't let anyone else play my flute because I am afraid of how much better it can sound. lol!

Maybe that explains why my first flute (An Artley) was all banged up from me slamming it down on the piano when I screwed up, and I screwed up ALL the time! :-(

I think I might have been a little like Guy Smiley on Sesame Street and slamming my head down on the piano screaming "Oh, I'll never get it!"

Do I need to sit down with someone and have a little talk, and get in touch with my inner peaceful person? "I love myself, and I like me..."

No, I don't hate me, just what I do sometimes, especially when those honker notes ruin a perfectly good peace I was playing.

AHHHHHHH!!!!!

FYI, I meant to type it as peace and not piece, because I was playing on words, but if you didn't get it and just thought I was an idiot, that is okay too. After all, I have issues, as you can see....LOL!
