Is it possible to double tongue on flute? If so, then how do you do it? Just curious, cuz i heard a song that had some amazingly fast seperated notes, and i dont think you can do it just by playing as usual.

Yes, it is possible to double and even triple tongue on the flute, and it is done quite regularly. Double/triple tonguing on the flute is done the same way as it is on any wind instrument. The most common version is T K T K T K, as the T sound gives a sharper, clearer beginning to the notes. If you have already learned double tonguing on the sax, it's just a matter of transfering what you already know to a new instrument. If not, I would highly suggest consulting a good teacher for assistance.

Ugh double tonguing is evil. I hate it. No matter how much I have practiced it, I haven't really accomplished it yet.

Don't worry too much Koza, it took me almost a year to get it down if that makes you feel any better.

I find that I spit all over the place when I double tongue, it's not a pretty sight. But seriously, I learned I had to watch my saliva when I did this because it would just come flying out all over the place....GROSS! I love it though, and the bad part you gotta watch is when you go back to regular tonguing you will find that you can get lazy and not do it correctly. Double-tonguing has been a real problem for me, and has caused me some bad habits that took my teacher 3 years to break me of in the mid-1990s. I also don't need to tell you not to pull the Jethro-Tull trick out to practice this, your flute teacher will just sit there and moan, and ask you to get serious. No, my teacher hated Tull...

You might be right, because if I get to doing a really fast piece, and start the double tonguing I sometimes get messy. I used to be much worse, I learned that I was pulling my tongue too far back into my mouth, and the "K" sound was then slapping into the puddle like you so correctly said. I am getting much better at avoiding this now, but it's an endless battle for me for some reason, could be because I am always holding the flute really really really hard against my chin. But then again, I have been scolded my whole flute life for that, and every mouth problem that comes up is blamed on this. I have no doubt that is NOT the problem. I have been over this point and over this point, and it drives me crazy! I play with HUGE energy, it's just me, I can't help it. Please flute gods, forgive me!!
