Yup! We very rarely do when it comes to flutes. But yeah...we still love each other. Hugs to Dennis!

Oh and Dennis, you will find this pretty funny...
Prism is really ticked right now. I listed my Sheridan head a couple of days ago because I thought that I should get a head start on it because usually headjoints take forever to sell. Not this one! I sold it before I even got my new Sheridan head and the only other headjoint I had around was that Venus one that I had left over from a flute lamp. It is hard to play and Prism is not happy. hahhahaha! She will be getting her other (much upgraded) mate tomorrow though, good thing because I have a concert tomorrow too! Talk about cutting it close.
She also just got her new baby Pearl today too to keep her company in the case. I hope she doesn't miss Lillian too much.

Sorry to the other members, you probably have no idea what I am talking about. Half the time I don't either. lol!!!

So did you end up getting a Pearl piccolo? If so, I hate you.

It all depends on the person AltoOrganist...you can't make that harsh of a judgement in general. They might work better than Pearls for you, but there are those that are the opposite (like me).

I think that Powell is better BUILT and designed. As far as sound, feeling etc... then yes, that is the players opinion. One thing I am almost positive of is that more people play on Powells then the professional Pearls if that says anything.

Uh oh! I hope I didn't start a whole Powell vrs Pearl war! Eeek!

Tim, I did buy a Pearl piccolo. I had tried three of them and ALL of them were out of adjustment. I had sold my wood Burkart piccolo and I have a concert tomorrow so I ended up just fixing the one I have and buying that. It was a pretty simple fix. Just do be careful if you are going to buy one that it is properly set up. I really like this piccolo a lot! It blew the Sonare away. I actually like it even better then the Burkart that I had. I sold off a good portion of my stuff so that I could finally get my dream headjoint with an engraved solid gold lip and crown. I have silver allergies and just didn't want to deal with gold plating the lips on my headjoints anymore. It made them look more like a student flute in my opinion.

You never know Kate...Powell seems to advertise that a lot of professionals use their flutes...but there are only a couple Pearl Artists, and the company doesn't advertise any others...is that out of unpopularity...or maybe not doing what other companies like to do...usetheir artists names for publicity...hmmm. I will have to ponder that.

Yeah, I guess it would make more sense that people would go ahead and buy pro Pearl flutes over Powells since they are simply amazing. What ever was I thinking! I think that Galway should change from his Nagahara. He could get the gold plated model. *Chuckles* If a player is used to a lifeless dull, flat sound then they most likely wouldn't like a Powell anyway.

I like both. Sometimes I wish my Powell had a sweeter sound like the Pearl. But the build and feel of my Powell is more solid and robust than any flute I've ever owned. For as much clout is given to Muramatsu's mechanism, My Powell is simply better than my Muramatsu was.

Tim, I had the same thought as you did and I wanted a sweeter sound. I just changed the headjoint on it. The best I have found to work well with it and give it that sweeter sound is Williams and Sheridan. Sheridan is my favorite.

<Added>

Are you still using the Nagahara then on it? Nagahara and Sheridan are my top two favorites. If I could afford to have both I would have one of each but I picked the Sheridan as it is a bit darker, sweeter and more clear in sound.

Oh Kate...you don't have to butter me up. LOL The thing I like about the Pearl IS the sound...if I can't get the same or better sound out of another flute...I don't care about the feel of it. I can adapt to whatever flute I am playing on...so I purely judge on my tone, sound and response...that's it.

Yes, I still have the Nagahara but I'm constantly overblowing it and cracking notes. I have to play on eggshells with it. I'd like some more resistance, but I like its brilliance (instead of darkness) and easy response. I recently played a big mess of headjoints at Nussbaum and my favorites were McKenna and Faulisi. But alas, I have bills to pay...
