I have a question, I play a wooden flute that you hold sideways (like a "real" flute) does this mean I'm a real, flutist? Okay, so, thanx and I was thinking about posting on the flute forum as well as the clarinet one. Is that cool with you all flutists?
PEACE OUT!

Welcome to the Forum. real, vrtual, flutist or not, we are all a mixture of this contradictory ingredients and in general we have fun, sharing and discussing flute related things here. (and sometimes, a few not-related things)
It is not necessary to be a flutist to post here, I think that just to be interested in the instrument is OK. Even if you were not interested you could post, as several others have done in the past, but it would be less interesting for you.
But no doubt you play a kind of flute, so I personally see no reason why not to call you a flutist, whatever your level may be. I believe the term is broader than the profession; many of us here are not truly professionals.
Enjoy the Forum!

"Real flute player? Depends on your definition of real.
If your playing is not "unreal", then at lesat your playing is real, but still there could be some doubt as to whether you, the player, is real real. In a forum such as this, you and everything else could be described as virtual.
So what do you think is the meaning of life?"
Ah Micron, the answer of course is......
42
unless you choose to debate the meaning of life and whether or not there actually IS one. Maybe the meaning of life is different for each individual and as such can't be defined.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=the+meaning+of+life
As for flutists, the meaning or purpose if you will, of life is to virtually play their flutes in a virtuous manner.
As for the wooden flute, bamboo flute , crystal, graphite composite, titanium and such..... I'd say that *Claire* the clarinetist is a clairinetist who also doubles as a flutist, flautist, flute player, edge tone or air reed practitioner. Now as to more specifics, what type of wood flute is this? medieval? baroque? ethnic? folk? nationalistic? Why even an end blown fipple flute is by definition a flute. So a recorder is a flute but is an organist who is playing flute stops on their pipe organ a flutist? and what about the synth player who is playing sampled flute sounds? I was given a recording of synthesized Christmas flute music once by a "friend" and after hearing the first few bars, gagged, ejected it and filed it in the circular bin saying, "Is this a joke?".
So my answere is that *Claire* the Clarinetists is .....
a musician.
