I don't quite call Ian Anderson Jazz flute, but maybe progressive, rocking, or even at times New Age (Oh, I hate those 2 words too). Yes, there have been many great jazz flutists and in fact I actually considered the flute from the earliest of ages to be a premier jazz instrument like the sax or trumpet. I used to listen to "The World of Jazz" in the 1970s and it opened with a jazz flute duo. One of my favorite movies as a kid was "Bullitt" and there is a scene in a Jazz Bar where the flute is just Jazzing up the house, and I came to think of the flute as the ultimate jazz instrument, next to sax. With all those memorable times where the flute was Jazzing it up, jazz flute took over my life. Ok, so did classical, and rock, and world music too...I am kinda like that. I like everything! But the flute IS a Jazz instrument. It is a premier jazz instrument right there with the best of em!
