Hi everybody, this is my first post here.
I'm kinda ignorant on flutes since I am a guitar player mainly..
I'd need some help determining which type of flute is played in this song.. I just like it a lot and I'd love to get one asap
You can listen to the songs here:

These are simple 6 hole wood flutes, very much like the one in my picture... There are many varieties. I've played this piece, Mononoke Hime, and others on the flute in my picture.

Trouble is finding a decent instrument. You have to play them.

Or you can spend $7500 and get the Yamaha...

Lovely. No, really - I'm not alone in thinking that it's the best flute Yamaha makes. Just... OUCH - my wallet just had a heart attack!

I found a bamboo one in a mall kiosk once. This guy was selling a truck load of them. They were mostly out of tune because the dimensions are all different. I thnk that the guy didn't use any schema for locationg the holes he just drilled them freehand and burned the edges with a torch. I tried a few and the intonation was nasty but I found one that I liked. Sometimes you can find this sort of thing at a craft flea market or a souvenier shop if you dig around plaes like that, you can find something neat.

Youc an even experiment with making one. All you need is some PVC pipe, a hand drill and a stopper of some kind.

At the new American Indian Museum in Washington D.C. http://www.nmai.si.edu/

they were selling native Am. flutes. They are neat. and neat sounding.

I got that flute for free. There was a private community that lived here in Northwest CT and when They moved out they were throwing a lot of stuff away. A friend of mine salvaged a bunch of wood flutes. (they used to make a lot of their own stuff) He brought them over to me to see if there was anything of interest there.

Most of them were cracked and really bad. But this one was in the lot. And it's a great flute. Pitched in G

Another option for cheap is to look at glass flutes - yet another type of sound.

The best wood flutes though - look under Irish music and you'll find ones that are more like old fashioned Fifes. Usually they are made very well.
