Hi,
I am thinking of organizing a flute choir (minus bass flute) for my students. I have run one before with middle school kids on only C flute. But, with high school kids I decided that I should try to add some harmony instruments. Some of my kids own piccolos...but I am the only one with an alto. So one of them will get to play that.
Ok, so to the core of my question...does anyone have tips on how to run a well organized bi-monthly group? i am getting it together for one student in particular who had to drop band and needs more extra curricular things to do. I was going to put her in charge of several things to give her a better title. I will let other students do the same if they need to...less work for me the better! So, any lists of ideas or just advice would be great! Also, if you know of some good picc/C fl/alto pieces with all or only some of them in it that is cool too!
Thanks!!! Sara

I am sure that you have already thought about all this, but this is what I cam up with...

Make sure to get everyone's information, ie: phone # and email address where you can send a schedule or reminder to. Find out what a good time would be for everyone to sit down together and discuss what time amd how often that you would like to hold the practices. If the times or days vary, write up a schedule a month in advance for everyone. Next, of course pick out music. The fun part! Hope that helps, if I come up with anything else I will let you know. My brain is tired right now.

i recomend not dojng music to easy for the more advanced played but not to hard for the less advanced cause we had this problem when i played the glock in band because it is a big mix of music grades and several people got bored cause the music wasn't very challanging (so try find a mid point try a range of songs) and don't just do classical songs try like songs from shows or films nad songs from bands people like cause it can be very boring playing only one genre of music again and again

ooo that sounds awesome. definitely get everyone's emails- we have a clarinet choir, and email is very helpful for making sure everyone knows the schedule and can let everyone know if they'll have to miss a rehearsal, et cetera. also we write reminders up on the whiteboard in teh band room (so does trombone choir, indoor ensemble, et cetera) so everyone will see it and remember to show up!
