Play both. You will need to be able to play both in any ensemble.

Piccolo is NOT easier than flute. That is my opinion, but anyone can feel free to disagree. You won't find too many people that will unless they are not playing the piccolo the way it is meant to be played.

any ways, replying to the comment that picc might not be easier then a flute is true. I've play picc for 3 years and flute for almost 5 years, and I find that they both have their difficulties. So the best way to find out is to try both out. but i bet you already knew that. :]
