If you don't want to play anything but flute, don't tell them you can play other instruments. If you've already been asked to play something else, do it for the sake of the group, but make sure your director knows that next semester/year you're going back to the flute. It's not worth making a big scene in front of the whole group, but you might consider talking to your director one-on-one and letting him or her know that you're not happy playing saxophone (or whatever other instrument they may want you on).

As usual, I agree with Chris. Be honest and talk your BD. I am sure he/she would appreciate that. Your BD most likely has no idea how you are feeling and I am sure he/she wants you to enjoy band.

I agree as well. Even though I would love to play bassoon once again in band, I must stick to the tenor sax for now for the sake of missing parts. Sometimes, a director will have you play on certain parts to fill in for bringing out a melody, harmony, or rhythm.

I agree that you should tell them the truth. It may work. I think that the band directors have some issues in that they need/want to fill out their band with variety. Finding people to play the lower instruments is always difficult in some places so the band directors tend to steer the students into them.

I was going to recommend that when you play an instrument that isn't the one that you want to do it badly (he-he) but I won't say to do that.
