I wanted to try one but my flute techer says I shouldn't try one from fluteworld because it will most likely break before I get it. But is Avanti worth the try

Avanti is the Brannen equivalent of Azumi, Brio, Amadeus, and Sonare. That is, a relatively inexpensive body (probably from Asia) with a decent head (from America) paired together. They actually aren't slated to be released until 2008, so how your teacher knows whether it will break is pretty mysterious. When they come out, I would certainly give them a try. Brannen is a very well respected company that is famous for its handmade instruments...If they're trying to grab a corner of the low/mid-range flute market, odds are they'll put out a decent product to match up with what's already out there.

<Added>

A little more poking around shows that some companies are expecting Avantis to be for sale in November, but they still haven't hit the market, so your teacher's claim that it will break is more than a little suspect IMO.

Avanti bodies are made by Conn-Selmer in Elkhart, not Asia. Does your teacher think it will break because of poor quality or because of Fluteworld?

at the music store near me called kessler and sons they are releasing them in november. I dont really know much about them but it is a combination between conn-selmer and brannen. sort of like brio azumi ect. they are pretty nicely priced to. I would just wait until they come out and them test them.

Let's get some info correct. Conn-selmer hired Bickford Brannen to help design the Avanti. Bic Sold Brannen Bros. to his employees. Let's not get the two confused. Kessler in Nevada has the first 20-25 or so of the run of these flutes. It's a Conn-Selmer product.

The one I saw is a decent instrument. Very typical of the other stuff in this price range. Of course, we have to see them when they come off the Conn-Selmer Production line to see how well they did with creating the Avanti in mass. But I suspect they will be decent..

Guess we'll know shortly.

Hello, anybody still watching this thread? I am new to this forum and just wanted to speak up about the Avanti flute.

First, it is NOT a Brannen product! It was designed by Bick Brannen at the request of Conn Selmer but the Avanti is not connected in any way with Brannen Brothers. Having said that, I have tried a couple of them and they seem like really good step up flutes. I know Bick very well (in fact I was the first person he ever hired for Brannen Brothers) and you can believe me when I say that the Avanti would never see light of day unless he believed it was a quality product.

Conn Selmer is a little late getting it produced due to some minor glitches. However, they are very very close to shipping the first flutes now. Since I am not personally involved with the project, I don't know the exact date or who will be selling them. But they will be good flutes and they are TOTALLY MADE IN THE U.S.A.!!

Best wishes,
Elizabeth
