my sister has got a simber flute which my mum got cheaper from a music shop as it was ex-display but the headjoint fits realy loosly so when she is playing it tends to slide out it it in great condition apart from this (i can play it from c below the stave to d above the stave) do you know any thing we can do to get the headjoint to fit better

its this years new model i think but i am not sure she loves her flute so i would like to make it so she can play with out haveing to slide the head joint back in every couple of minutes so i will try a little plumbers tape if i can find any

Plumber's tape is sometimes sold under the moniker of "Teflon tape" so you might end up needing to look for that. This is a short term solution, though, and if your sister plans to play this flute for long, it should be taken to a tech so the headjoint can be sized correctly. This is a very simple process and should require only a few minutes, and little (if any) cost.

On a side note, unlike cars, flutes do not come in model years. There are several "different" models of Simba (the only real differences being the material they're plated with, and the availability of a Split E), but what year a flute was made does not indicate what model it is.

just take it to a local repair tech it is an easy fix that is inexpensive and not difficult in the mean time there is metallic tape that works good that is sold at hardware stores or else packaging tape works well as i find that plumbers tape to be very temporary and hard to work with why would a music store sell a flute with such a loose headjoint you should take it back from where you bought it and have them fix it for you that would be the right thing from them to do

Please this place is getting crazy now nobody uses punctuation it is still more difficult to read than phonetic writing or limericks could we get back to the sane track before it is too late

Spell checkers are part of good browsers like Firefox and I suggest you get one but spell checkers do not solve the problem of not using punctuation this is a small effort the user should made by its own your style gave me an idea for several new ways of making reading posts more difficult and I will post these ideas later today

This mode has an advantage, it is more difficult to read so that spirits have more time to calm down and so there might be less quarrels in the future.

I think that it is a sign of age to criticize these younger kids on spelling and grammar. With all of these hand held devices and forms of text messaging, we may be fighting a doomed battle. Their response woud be to rolltheir eyes and say, "What-Evah!"

Spell checkers can work OK butt they aren't always the answer when the sentences and choice of words dew knot make good cents.

It is awfully difficult for me to get used to the lack of punctuation. I understand the "texting" issues etc., however, when posting on a forum such as this, especially after the request for punctuation has been made so many times, it does seem rather rude to continue not using punctuation.

It is imperative to use good writing mechanics for both education and employment, so.....it might be a good idea to start practicing now!

I think it is rude and just plain lazy and I lose respect for someone that posts like that. It may just be the older generations fault for us not being harder on the kids. After all, I would guess that parenting has a big deal to do with some of these things. I have four nieces that I know would never communicate like that on a public forum. They are always respectful. Good parenting on my sisters behalf!

I use the same spell checker that Micron always suggests. I try to remember to use it every time before before I hit the post button now. Now, if only they would have one that would tell you where to put the rest of the punctuations. I have always struggles with where to put apostrophes and commas. I can be told 100 times how to do it correctly and never remember! So that there was not my parents fault.

I can't find my word processor on this new computer of mine. Grr... That is a good idea though, I will have to go find it.

No I am not trying to cause trouble. I am only trying to recover a lost punctuation that seemed to disappear whe I try writing it. It's also not like giving up something for Lent. Last year I gave up the Semi-colon for Lent but started to use it again after.
I find it rather perplexingly serious. I can only show the problem but that s not going to make you all believe that it s actually happening here and that I m not just faking it. Oh well, I ll keep looking.

Haha, I was perplexed myself for the apostrophe question. I doubted and looked up in the WR dictionary and found that it can also mean a "rhetoric figure", which I took for your comment on age signs (apart from old, I may also be getting paranoid, after all):

apostrophe [ə'pɒstrəfɪ] nombre
1 (signo gráfico) apóstrofo
2 (figura retórica) apóstrofe

I also lose letters and punctuations when my keyboard gets so much used or tired that they disappear from the keys. Not that I lend them, they just fade away on their own.

But it seems that they are still there, hidden, as I can make them come back with a felt marker, albeit for a too short time only.
