Need some basics on the culture of Halloween. What has the Toccata&Fuga to do with it?
Just curious...

That Bach Toccata and Fugue in d was used in a version of the Phantom of the Opera movie dating to 1962. Herbert Lom played the Phantom.

Thanks!
1962.. A little too hard for me to get at first sight. I think this work from Bach has been also used in more recent versions. But I cannot recall if it was included in the Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1986 musical, which for me has become "The Phantom" since I saw it in London many years ago.

No It's not in the ALW Phantom. But I would have to say that it inspired Webber in his music for that show. ALW has written some great music....but it's difficult to deal with stereotypes.

They use the Bach in a lot of scary movies since 1962. It's about as common as hearing a wolf howl in a Dracula movie or hearing a loon call in any wilderness night time scene.

Yes, I like ALW music. My sing teacher does not agree, however.
He says it is poorly written and made for special voices (i.e, it is difficult to sing, too low and too high in the same piece). Only for true baritenors in case of male voices.
Not that there are not many very good ones out there, but still, peculiar.
