or instead the Sym. 93 by Haydn where the bassoon has that long and low note solo in the slow mvt. ...
http://www.classicstoday.com/review.asp?ReviewNum=6980
"For example, there's no way to reproduce the opening of Symphony No. 93's slow movement as Haydn intended--for string quartet solo and then full string orchestra--so Salomon doesn't try, adding piano right from the outset. Similarly, the hilarious bassoon fart at the movement's end here becomes a loud tutti; the ribaldry gets lost, but the musical contrast is preserved, which is perhaps the more important point."

I must strongly disagree with the general opinion I am finding in this forum and that I should qualify as a "myth".
As you know the French School of Flute is the most respected in the world of professional flutists. So you better believe me or you are not a professional.
Here we believe that if a player farts it will decrease his tone volume and not improve his vibrato an iota. The reason is quite obvious and simple. As the flutist tummy decrease in volume during the farting process, the flutist naturally lost the breathe support given by the diafragm. This is quite obvious if you stink, sorry, think about it.
The bad thing is that the player is loosing tone volume at the exact moment tone volume is the most needed because of the audience usually moving away from the player. What a pity.
That is why in France we are taught to play with a very pinched bottom, in order to keep maximum breath support. Additionaly this practice is well known to reduce significantly the cholesterol level and that is why French flutist as allowed to eat plenty of cheese. Cheese by the way will give the flutist a mellower tone, but this is another story.

That would be French flautist
It's not the cheese that gives a mellow tone, it's the WINE.
I'm tired of the French...they steal everything. Just how is that what came to be known as the "French Model" flute was invented by a German?
