Dear James,

Thank you for your message and for your interest in Miyazawa! Please
find our current price list attached as well as information on our new
958 Silver. Note that all of these models listed are with OPEN HOLES as this is our STANDARD configuration. Plateau models are available at the same prices, but they are considered SPECIAL ORDERS. This requires a 50% non-refundable down-payment with the balance due upon receipt of the flute. A special order typically takes 2-3 months.

Regarding the debate between open holes and plateau keys, it is really a personal decision, although there are some arguments for open holes.
The main advantages are:

1. Ability to perform extended techniques, such as pitch bends and microtones.
2. Re-sale value: the majority of flutists in North America
look for open holes over plateau.
3. Some people believe that they can feel the resonance of the flute better with open holes and find this to be a positive thing.

On the other side, we do OCCASIONALLY have clients order plateau keys as they just feel more comfortable with them and do not want to worry about not covering the holes when playing.

I hope this information is helpful! Please let me know if you have any further questions about any of this. And if you would like to receive our brochure and information in the mail, please let us know your mailing address. Hope to hear back from you soon!

Best regards,

Catherine Miller
