JimMillen -
Couldn't you have put all of these related posts in a single thread called "Supporters of Open Hole Flutes"? It would make your point much stronger if readers saw in one thread that Miyazawa and Haynes and Kim Sopata and ... support open hole flutes and would give others a chance to respond with arguments for or against open hole flutes. Also, it would allow those who could care less about that thread to skip over it.
I see you like to add emphasis using ALL CAPS, which can be interpreted as yelling. I would recommend trying italic text instead. (See the guide to the left when writing a post for how to do this.)

When replying to JimMillen's posts try not to look like the "bad guy". It will only make matters worse, as evidenced by the last two weeks of banter.
Now, here is my opinion on the open hole flute debate:
Just because a lot of famous flute makers and professional flutists support something doesn't make it best for everyone. Just take a look at how inline flutes became popular!
An open hole flute would only be required to play music with extended techniques, microtones, or multiphonics. I'm guessing the majority of non-professional flutists are not going to play that kind of music, so it really doesn't matter whether they have open or closed holes.
That said, in today's "intermediate" or "professional" used flute market open hole flutes tend to sell better. Also, open holes might help ensure proper finger placement on the keys. Other than that, I say it doesn't really matter.
All of my concert flutes are open hole (but not the piccolo, alto or bass flutes for obvious reasons!). That's because my first flute was open hole (recommended by my band director ), so after all these years playing an open hole flute, switching to a closed hole flute feels funny to me.
P.S. - Yes, I know they make alto/bass flutes with open holes now, but I couldn't afford them even if I was interested.

I appreciate your comment and I do see your point, but I can choose what I would like to say for myself. I know you are just trying to help, but please don't tell me what to do. I am past the point of being polite to him as there is more to the story than you see just on this board. I am not trying to be rude to you at all, so please don't take it as such. <Added>Okay, that came off as being rude anyway and that was not my intent. I just re read that. Sorry. I jumped down your throat for nothing. Sorry. I am just feeling a bit testy right now. Please except my apologies. You are completely correct.
I really need to get some sleep...

My comment to you was just a suggestion. I realize I didn't make that clear in my post. Sorry!
I was just trying to point out that if someone not familiar with your previous (very helpful) posts saw this one, they might think you were the "bad guy".
You seem to be very knowledgeable about flutes and have a good sense of humor. I would like to see more of those types of posts from you. Again, just a suggestion!
