Beating a Dead Horse ……

KARA, in her latest rude remark said to me: “Why are you bringing this up --- who cares?” Well, I’ll tell you who cares --- it’s the newest posts I’ve read where members, new or otherwise DO care, and are asking.

Now, why on earth would I bring up an “old, tired post” that has been addressed many times? That is, “open hole” vs Plateau flutes?

That’s because on my original post(s) I DARED to suggest that open-hole flutes are superior to Plateau flutes. Did I EVER get a lot of heat about that from this forum! ALTHOUGH many of you DO have open hole flutes.

So, rather than take MY word for it (which, at that time, was only an “opinion”) --- I decided to call for “back-up”.

And I got it. From Miyazawa, Nagahara, Powell, Haynes --- and from various artists, whom all assured me that the open-hole flute IS superior to the Plateau flute. So, there, KARA, is the POINT that you were looking for.

Now, I know that you ALL pay attention to Micron, AZflutist, Kara, and the rest. And you should, because they’re very knowledgeable. I respect their opinions --- believe me, I do. In fact, THEY individually and collectively are responsible for my choosing an “off-set” G versus an “In-line” G. You see --- I can learn, too!

However, none of (the above) people are manufacturers of flutes. Thus, I have to depend upon the feed-back I’ve gotten from the MAJOR flute manufacturers --- plus the feed-back I’ve gotten from various artists.

Miyazawa, as a matter of fact, no longer offers the Plateau flute --- unless it’s a “special order”. That’s because they have little call for Plateau flutes.

There is still haunting me, to this day, what Paula Robison and other artists I’ve contacted have said about the French model flute: (they) said that “more air escapes the flute with an open hole flute, giving it more projection, and a ‘truer’ sound”. I DON’T understand, to this day, what they’re talking about. I just simply depend upon those HIGH-END flute manufacturers and artists to provide me with the “bullet” I was looking for.

Why would I bring up an old “post” --- well, because it’s not exactly “old”.

There are CURRENT posts, wherein “new” members are asking the same question. Open hole versus Plateau.

So, I feel that it’s responsible to (at least) answer their posts.

Sorry if I ruffle feathers. But I still think I’m right. So does Miyazawa, Haynes, Muramatsu, Nagahara, Powell, etc., as well as significant artists.

Regards, Jim Millen

I understand the idea of wanting to get you opinion across (which you have already done many times), but it seems that you keep trying to force everyone on this forum to say that they agree with you when they clearly don't agree.

You have to understand that it's THEIR personal opinions that open-holes, inline Gs, low B, and silver don't have any effect over tone and are simply add-ons. It's also their belief that just because the silver open-hole/inlineG/lowB flutes are in higher demand, doesn't necessarily mean they are better, just more popular. Again this is their opinion and by bringing this topic up over and over, you are saying you don't honor their opinion, as much as you think they should honor you own.

The bottom line is, your posts/topics have come off as being hypocritical and childish. This is why people getting annoyed with you (plus I think you kind of harass them), not because of you're belief involving flutes. Just remember that you're opinion has been put on the internet and will stay they for a very long time(possible forever), so people can come and read them and make their own opinions and idea’s on the subject.

Oops, look at all my typos.
