Have anyone played Cannon In D yet? I`m having difficulties in playing the sixteenth notes in the particular section. Any advice would be great.

I played it as a quartet last year, it was great! (Thirtysecond notes in the third register, yeah!) Anyhow: woodshed it.

For those of you unfamiliar with the term, woodsheding is when you set your metronome at an insanely slow tempo, and play a section perfectly three times, then go up a notch and play it three more times (No cheating! Only one click at a time!) AND... If you mess up, you start the three count over again. Remember that you have to be honest with yourself, and if it wasn`t flawless, start the count over.

I have played that song on flute, and the 16ths are hard especially in the high high register. What I did was play one measure over and over and over again until I got it perfect then play the next measure over and over and over with out stopping and so on.

Do what gumdrop says set your metrnome slow and play it slow till its perfect. Then gradully speed it up. After that those 16ths should be a breeze.

I`ve played it too and woodshedding is good advice--I recommend that while you`re woodshedding, start by fingering with the metronome and when you`ve done THAT perfectly about three times, move on to playing it perfectly three times. You`ll save your lips. You might also consider carrying the piece around with you and practicing with a pencil--you`ll be amazed how much you can improve with just that "mental" practice.

And if you`re having trouble actually hitting the notes, do long tones til you can`t see straight!
