I soon may have the opportunity of joining a flute ensemble (or orchestra) in my new school.

Although I would be 6th or 7th (or higher) flute, sitting at the farthest range, it would be anyway an additional effort and will require much time and dedication from my part. It would also be my first experience in something more complex than duets.

What is your opinion concerning this type of activity? Is it worth the effort?

Flute ensembles are fun!!
If you have the time then definately do it. The flute ensemble sound is so unique and beautiful. I love it.

This one is rather big. May be some 30 players or more at times...
All sorts of flutes there (C, G, Bass, contrabass)

And with a friendly and supportive director who is, of course, a very good flutist and also a teacher.

Lera,
Thank you for posting this reflection on emotional intelligence.

One reason of my posting was to hear opinions about this activity before jumping to conclusions, such as requesting my admission to the ensemble or letting it pass.

The problem is that any new activity (and more particularly, group activities where one must commit to the group) requires time and efforts and I have a rather limited quantity of them. At my present life stage, I must manage them more carefully than when I was younger as you are now.
