I wanted to play jazz flute since I was fifteen. I only actually attempted to play a Boehm flute for the first time about two years ago on a Sunday afternoon (although I'd played various fipple flutes and a non-keyed transverse flute called an "Aeolian flute"). It put my back out for a week thus ending my flute career for good.

Well, I started playing w2hen I was 7, I played the recorder, but never really wanted to play it, just at music class at school, and just because the teacher told me to, then I arrived to 7th grade and my music teacher was great, he formed a music group and everything, and they performed at concerts and festivals, but I still didnīt want to play the flute, then, this year, 8th grade, he introduced the fife flute to the school, so I chose it and I started playing with them, so about 5 months

Started at 11 and played until 15. The braces bothered me too much. Just started again a little over a month ago at 38. I wish that I had never sold my old flute. It was a lot better than the one I have now.

I played clarinet first (started at 8 years) and hated it. Then my mom decided I had to play the flute so I started to play the flute at 11. At fisrt I hated it, but now I love the sound of the flute. I have been playing the flute for 7 years now.

I was 8, but gave up for about 4 years because I hated my teacher so much I was physically sick before lessons. We had groups and because I was the strongest player everyone including the teacher would pick on me
I then took it up in a hurry, because I needed a second instrument for A levels. I managed to ABRSM grade 6 (from about grade 2) in the space of 4 months for college audtions!

I started at age 10. Actually, the night before my 10th birthday my mom gave a me a box with a ribbon and I opened it and it was a flute! So, 9.999 years old.

At first I liked the sound of the flute and little by little I started to dislike it. Now I can't really hear that well out of my right ear. My sound might be too harsh. Any suggestions?

I started playing around the age of 11.....I originally started on clarinet until about my junior year in high school. At the end of my junior year in high school, i started working on playing flute b/c i enjoyed they sound and loved listening to others play it. I became really good at it in a short time and when i started my freshmen year in college i was a double performance major on flute and clarinet. During my sophomore year of college i decided i enjoyed flute/piccolo more, so that is my focus.

PeterK,

Do you think the answer is related to the problem you are experiencing with your hearing? Do other people that have heard you playing think your sound has changed and become harsh?

You should post this question as a new topic, so you can get some suggestions.

Thanks man.

People don't really listen to me play. Seems like they just go away really fast when I get the flute out.

I started playing clarinet and was told that I couldn't practice in the house. Since, it was winter, I switched to flute, and got to practice indoors.
