Hi!
I was wondering if somebody around here knows a little something about Grassi flutes (I have searched the internet but have found very little info). For seven years now I have been playing on a Grassi flute (my first and only flute) and now I am considering an upgrade. What I'm really trying to do is to figure out how "good" my flute is, so I know what I have to upgrade to.
Info about my flute: it is an Ida Maria Grassi, made in Italy, Prestige Model. That is all that is written on it except for the serial number. It looks very bad: no shine and the nickel (or silver?) plating is mostly worn off. I got is as a present and when I got it, it was in this bad shape (on the outside), yet technically speaking the flute had changed pads and the keys have been reseated. Since then it has not been checked out by a professional.
Apart the fact that I want to find out more about my flute, like: is it made of silver? is it an intermediate flute or a students flute?...
...I would also like to know IF I should upgrade.
I am a flute player that plays in a marching band. I do not practice that much anymore(once or twice per week for 1 or 2 hours). I rarely play solo's. I am mainly the type: stick to the notes and you'll be fine. :D
The reasons that I would want to upgrade my flute for are: I am having difficulties tuning it (and this is, of course, very important in a band), I am getting weird shrieks at the higher notes and my flute looks bad.
Well... I guess I have managed to make an incoherent bulk out of this message but I hope you get the point!
