Hello,
I`m the flute section leader for my school marching band (there`s actually two of us, but the other has been on vacation all season so far, so it`s just me), and one of the members of my section is being just awful.
I`m a Junior, and she`s a Senior (that might be part of it), but that`s not the main thing.
She`s not an exellent marcher, just average, but even at times when she`s not doing things correctly (i.e. not being in line) she yells at other people (the poor freshmen) for being wrong, and won`t fix her own problems first. She`s so rude about it that even people in other sections are complaining about her.
In addition. We do this thing called celebration (pushups when you mess up), and you assign them to yourself. If you mess up and DON`T celebrate, someone with power (a section leader or marching instructor) will tell you to, but she never does.
Even more, when you ask her to fix something (dress the curve) she makes snide remarks and won`t move, or glares at you and acts like a b****. This isn`t just happening towards me, but EVERYONE is getting this treatment from her.
The REAL probem is: she`s in MY section, and MY responsibility, and nothing I do seems to help.
Any advice?

Have the teacher talk to her?

Poor you! I know how you feel, I used to be in the school band and this girl called Rhiannon used to have a go at other people for doing things wrong, when she was doing things TOTALLY wrong 2! I suggest that if she`s marching out of line make a sneaky comment like: Come on, you`re doing okay so far, but keep in line, say it sternly, but try not to sound nasty, if she REALLY upsets you and the band members have a talk to a teacher (music teacher best) Han*

If she is being pain, which she is, tell the teacher and have them take care of her. The section leaders, you, shouldn`t have to put up with her crap, S.L`s are there to help everyone get better, not to fight with the other band people about what to do. You did as much as you could do as a SL now you need to tell the teacher.
