I read with both chagrin and amusement (and frustration) the thread about "expert" village.

I finally saw the young instructor and, though I feel she is sincere in her ability, is pretty misguided.

This is, IMO, the downside of the wild west of technology know as the internet. I just do my best to steer my students and any prospective flute players far away from such videos.

On the other hand, I can send them to the net to get fingering and trill charts, learn about the lives of the composers, shop for music and learn about historical flutes at the Smithsonian Museums Dayton C Miller Flute Collection site.

So, I guess we have to accept the good with the bad...

I am just completly astonished that someone would get so bent out of shape over the opinion of the majority of people on this board. I think that a lot of the people who post here most often with sound advice are professional musicians. I have come to value the opinions of many of the members who post here.

The sad thing is even though he admits to being a poor player, he defends the flute teacher who gave him poor instruction. He should be a little disappointed about the whole experience and attempt to find a competent teacher to correct the poor technique that he was taught instead of running to her defense.

It also seems that maybe he suffers from poor self esteem to the point that he expects to be mediocre.

Even more disappointing was how ugly the forum became. It degenerated into a bunch of name calling and speculative opinions about race.

That was very ugly.

I agree, so lets get it back to a group of nice people who want to learn and improve...

What about this other Latin expression? It could well apply to the expert village expert, IMO:
