I have an old wonderful Haynes, closed hole model - made in 1960 or so, serial # 30067 that I might like to sell. It needs an overhaul - but should I overhaul before I sell, or is that too risky? How much can the flute be worth and where is the best place to sell it? Even in such dire need of an overhaul, it as the most gorgeous sound, I almost prefer it to my newer model Haynes made in the 80's. I think the head joint is amazing and I wish I could find one like it for my newer model.

Can anyone provide info as to what Haynes is known for from this period of flute making, if anything?

Would love any feedback.

is it a handmade Haynes? mine is from that period and they are very good, so worth overhauling IMO. Also, contact Haynes on their website, or call and ask to speak with Alan Weiss, he is the expert on all these flutes.

Thanks Patrick - I believe it is handmade. I forgot to mention that I requested an insurance replacement letter from Haynes, but I'm not sure what that will tell me, or what info they provide, maybe it's like an appraisal of sorts based on how much it would cost to buy one new . . . ?

Take a look at prices at the Flute Center.

Do keep in mind that Phil does tend to have steep prices on his used flutes though. You can usually talk him down.

when it comes to pricing, always barter, if I am hoping to get $4,000 for my car, I will ask $5,0000...

Also check www.yourfluteworks.com and fluteworld...

I think most of the Flute Center's used instruments are on consignment. So, you can ask Phil to negotiate with owner. I've used this approach.
