Sorry Suzie, perhaps I'm a little naive...but I'm kinda confused as to what you mean by "pitting"....are you saying it would be better to get a silver plated flute over a solid silver?

One of my friends in junior orchestra has been hab=ving problems with her trevor james 10x (or what ever the student one is) but she bought it new so i don't trust trevor james.
But Try as many differant flutes as you can and get the one you like the most, which sounds best, i think places like flute world will let you try a flute for a couple days so use places like that and get the one you like the mos- because it is a lot of good us telling you what we like best but afterall it is your flute and your opinion not ours so try lots and get the one you like best weighing up all your options
