My flute teacher from high school (oh my, 20 years ago!) and a friend of mine are getting together to form a flute choir just for our own fun and amusement.

My teacher has a bunch of classical stuff, but I would like to see us try some new, more modern pieces.

We do not have access to any alto or bass flutes, so it would have to be for three (c) flutes or a comb. of flutes and piccs.

I was really hoping that there would be some type of Disney medley, but I've only found Whistle While You Work, and it requires a piano.

Several years ago I heard a flute choir do a song that sounded like a locomotive, whistles and all. I would love to find a piece like that. What do you call that? Programatic music? I don't remember, it's been a long time!

I don't know whether you call this classical or modern and it doesn't sound like a train but the Stars and Stripes Forever is a nice piece, if you look around you could probably find a trio. This probably doesn't help though...

Stars and Stripes would be what they call a march.

I wish I could help on the music you are looking for, but I don't venture much out of classical unless it is by Rhonda Larson and maybe sometimes Irish music.

Unless by classical you mean specifically late eighteenth-century (in contradiction to Renaissance, Baroque, and Romantic, etc.), I have to object vehemently. Classical music (in the sense that subsumes Renaissance, Baroque, and Romantic music, etc.) is a continuing and evolving tradition. There is plenty of "modern" classical music.

I think that most people on here realize that your reply regarding "classical" vs. "modern" music has absolutely nothing to do with the question I asked.

I am not claiming to be an expert in music history and I have no need to impress anyone with my knowledge or what you pointed out as "lack of."

I was simply looking for suggestions from other flutists on this board who appreciate the help we provide for one another.

From the original question, I believe that pennsylvania_flutist wants something that could be classified as "popular" music more than "concert" music. Even that distinction is not always too clear.

Musical categories are a touchy subject with many people. ;-)
