Split E on Gemeinhardt?

I just bought a used 3OSB for a student. I was surprised when the flute arrived it has a Split E Mechanism. I don't even see that option available when I go to the website or ww&bw.

Also, this has the gold (plated I assume) mouthpiece and crown. I assume these are just gimmicks and probably will eventually wear off anyway, but does anyone know why the interior of the headjoint is also plated in gold? Is it just for aesthetics?

Thanks, Suzie. I knew you would know! :-)

I halfway wonder if it was an aftermarket deal? I know other people who have had the mechanism installed.

When I search online for Gemeinhardt & split E mech I get links that take me to one called the 3OESB.

Suzie, is the 3OSB the same as a 3SB but just with offset keys or is this a cheaper model??
