Some time ago I read a thread asking about good harmony books. OK, I don't know if the issue has been solved, but I'm reading a book called "El lenguaje musical", by Josep Jofré i Fradera, and I'm finding it pretty interesting. It is divided in three volumes (the third has yet to appear, as far as I know), the first one on notation and the second one in harmony. I'm unaware whether or not an english translation is available, but if you can find it (or read Spanish), I recommend it. It's technically great, and it deals also with some of the story of notation, modes, tonality, etc.. The author is spanish, cathedratic on composition, and flutist. First flute in the Musici of Prague, among other things. On top of it, it is quite fun and easy to read, and full of examples on real sheet music. And no, no one is paying me for the ad. I just sort of got going... I'm enjoying it.
Ok, whatever, I hope this is of use to someone.
