My dentist advises me to correct teeth with braces. But I love to play flute. To make the decision, I need to know, is it possible to play flute with braces, or is it absolutely impossible?

May anyone help me, please.

I have taught many, many students with braces over the last 20 years, and most do just fine..there is a period or re-adjustment, but if you play correctly, you will do great.

In fact, some students with braces actually do better because they are forced to play with a more relaxed embouchure..

The thing you said is a real consolation. So thank you very much indeed.

I played through having braces twice, and played into college. The second time it was only on the lower teeth. A few times I'd get scratched up, but generally I'd put wax over problematic parts.

I've visited the orthodontist. He said it's necessary to extract two teeth as there's no place to move teeth in the mouth. This turned me mournful, because my pleasure of playing flute depends on teeth, and dentists of all kinds love to extract them most of all.

I don't think you need any teeth at all to play the flute. Anyone here have denturesa and want to try it out and tell us how it goes?

I had braces for a year and a half. My tone was changed a bit, but it wasn't too bad. However, it was a painful to play for long periods, so I used wax on the ends of the wires to protect my lips and cheeks.

If they say you need braces, you should probably get them. But, you should do some serious research before making the decision to get some of your teeth pulled. That is often unnecessary and can have some bad consequences if they are pulled at the wrong time.
