Okay, we had chair tests at my middle school, and on Friday I found out I was tied for second chair..... with 6 other people!!! How totaly random is that? Actually, I'm pretty happy because I've never been higher than fourth chair.... but still, this is so weird!

I've heard of being co-section leaders with 2 people.. but with 6 people tying for second.. i think thats a bit too much!!

This doesn't make sense to me. There is only one physical second chair (the one next the first chair). Who sits there?

Plus, I don't see how being tied with 6 other people is better than 4th chair. Unless I'm misunderstanding something, you could (conceivably) be sitting in the 7th physical chair, even though you're "tied" for second chair.

She means the director has yet to decide with placement, with second chair representing the second strongest player. (AKA Chairs) (A principal is first, etc.)

It is really quite simple how it happened. I have two words for you... Band Director!

Who cares who sits what chair? It is not like it is a professional group and you are getting paid. Just enjoy it. First or second chair doesn't mean much now a days from the way the playing standards have gone down hill anyway. Meaning, there is not much to compete against. I was first chair in two community bands. It doesn't mean much since the rest of the flutists were pretty bad.
