I find interesting to notice that in English the verb and its object almost coincide:
to sing a song, a song sung (by...)
German is no exception, sing eine Gesang, though "Lied" may be more familiar to us.
Polish -I've been told- is an exception, but I am unable to write it the words used.
In Latin-related languages it is also a close relationship but not so close:
Cantar (una) cancion (sp)
chanter (une) chanson (fr)
cantare (una( canzona (it)
sing ein Lied
