I'm the "flute girl" for an upcoming production of Antigone and I am on the prowl for some (royalty free) music. The director has specifically asked for "simple, solemn" pieces that will add a touch of moodiness to the play. Unfortunately, I don't really have a lot of solemn pieces. Do you guys have any suggestions? Any sense of direction would be much appreciated. : )

the sarabande from the a minor partita by JS Bach is good, as is the adagio from the solo a minor sonata by CPE Bach, many of the Telemann solo fanatasies are good, perhaps the Folies d'espagne by Marin Marais would be good...

Does it have to be classical? If not, Irish laments are very solemn. Jessica Walsh has some simple Irish melodies.

Thanks for the suggestions. They were all very helpful.

I'm definitely looking into the Irish laments. They seem to be exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you!
