Recently I recieved a piccolo from a family member, a nice gmeinhardt at that, and decided to learn to play it. I never imagined the embrochure could be so different! My cousin says its like whistling, and I have tried to do that. It works relatively well, but my embrochure still seems to be off. Could any of you piccolo players out there help me? (I have braces, that could possibley be my problem, so tips to play with braces help too. )

I'd tell you to focus the airstream a little closer to your chin than when you play the flute.

But of course the biggest secret is practice, practice, practice :-)

Try playing long notes in the middle octave, chromatically and slowly going down then up, whilst trying to change your embouchure to find the right focus point.

Also, the airstream must be smaller than on the flute, so perhaps you need a bit more work on the lips muscles.
