Hi I'm a beginner flutist and I'm planning to get a good flute. My first flute wasn't good quality at all, since I bought it cheap and didn't look much into the brand (my mistake)so I want to get a good one. I'm debating between the Gemeinhardt S2P and a Yamaha. I see that Gemeinhardts tend to be a bit less expensive, but I want a good flute that will last me a long period of time. Any opinions/suggestions? Here is a website I might be buying from: http://www.ginasflutes.com/flutes.htm.

A point to consider is the budget you are able to spend.
No doubt I'd go for a Yamaha. Thus, if durability is a concern, I'd advise you to choose the 481.

I also agree, go with Yamaha. I would try and get your hands on a newer 221 of a Yamaha or a 225SII. Make sure the II is after it as they are not as old. I have a like new 221 if you care to take a look at my site.

Jupiter is also a good student flute and I also one of those. It just isn't listed on there yet. Hope that helps.

Kara, I just love those gemstone crowns... beautiful! I was thinking of getting a student flute as a "backup" and may just get one from you sometime
