binx-
that is a very strong accusation...
do not jump to conclusions to fast. It may very well be true, but it would be best to be completely sure before placing an accusation on somebody. It seems like our flute section here has driven many new members away the past few weeks, and if flutebabe turns out NOT to be Chermo, then we may very well lose her too. Besides, why would somebody argue with themselves? ?If you look in the previous posts, you can see that Chermo and Flutebabe's posts contradict each other slightly.

Leigh, in short, yes, it is wrong/illegal to photocopy anything, including music, that has a current copyright.
It doesn't matter who you are helping to teach the flute, or whatever- there ARE flute method books and sheet music that are past copyright. So there is NOT an issue of, hey, that poor person, they can't buy music so they can't learn to play the flute. IF they want something more modern and/or popular, they can save up or buy the newer music or method book.
Let's say YOU wrote a book.
People found it to be a good book, and they wanted to read it.
If they photocopy the book themselves, they are stealing from you the right to copy the book that YOU wrote yourself and sold to someone.
For those of limited resources, books, sheet music, CDs, etc CAN be borrowed, read/played/enjoyed, learned from, and returned to the LIBRARY for someone else to read.
If someone no longer wants a book, they can give it to anyone they would like to.
But if you copyright something, that gives you the only right to legally copy.
Chermo, glad to hear that your daughter is enjoying the flute playing.
