So, I was looking into buying a flute case cover. I currently have a Yamaha 225s with the standard black plastic yamaha case. My flute cleaning rod (plastic yamaha) does not actually fit inside the case. So, I'd like to buy a case cover that will fit my cleaning rod and swab. Any suggestions?

It would be cheaper to get a rod that does fit in the case or cut down the rod you have got

".........or cut down the rod you have got"

Which end are you suggesting should be shorter?

kara has a couple of nice looking cases on her website

but there are loads of gigbags on ebay and most of them have an outer pocket and as long as it has a strong strap i don't think it matters that much

i think by the post she means that there is no place to put the cleaning rod with in the case so she would like something to put the case in that also has a pocket for her swab and cleaning rod

Leigh is right. The problem is not the cleaning rod. It's that I'd like to keep my cleaning cloth and flute rod outside of my case.

I really like Kara's flute case covers, but pink is not my colour. The double one looks nice, but a little big. I'll be keeping an eye out for them on her site though.

Ah, those case covers look nice. I'd like something under $30 though.

Good point Bilbo.

Taking off one end will make it useless for its primary purpose.
From the other end it is still good for this although not for the secondary use - but with forethought you can overcome this.

I agree it's best to keep the cloth outside the case - a damp cloth can cause the body to tarnish.

I have two Reunion Blues Case covers that are a good 20 years old.
They are leather and are well padded. If I sell the flutes for another flute someday then the case covers will stay with me.
It seems that Flute world is a bit more expensive for these things than Weiner:

Do you have a piccolo to? I just recently got a new case to. I love it. My case is kind of big, but it's worth it. It has a part in the front for your flute, and a huge pocket in the back for a piccolo. The part for a piccolo is big enough for my flute case. The piccolo pocket has 3 cleaning rod loops that I put my cleaning rod in. On the front, it has 2 pockets big enough for a metronome. The part for a flute also has a music pocket.

Ebay, just make sure the seller is rated high. I've also ordered many great thinks from Europe, but the shipping is higher.

And, you are correct. Never,never,neverever...store a damp cleaning swab cloth with your flute. It will ruin your pads. They must be kept DRY or they will start to stick and deteriorate fast. Take a gander at what a rebad costs and you'll understand why I'll say precaution is a nesseccery evil. It's even good to leave your flute in a safe place with the case open after heavy playing to allow all moisture to dry. Don't alter your rod. If it is the original manufacturers rod it is lined on one end to adjust your cork for optimum factory tuning. Cut the fisheye, and the rod is worthless too.
