This is getting stupid, you can't sheild your kids from this stuff for the rest of there lives they will have to learn about it anyway, if you don't want your child to join just tell them they are too young, but don't tell them it is only right to be one thing because that will cause then big issues in later life, and as
has already been said the original poster was simply posting an ad for a flutist and was telling us about the band the fact it is what it is doesn't matter because they were not promoting that you should or shouldn't be straight just simply making sure that those of you who seem to be homophobic don't join.

Wow! I didn't realize my simple post looking for DC area flutists would cause such controversy.

I stand by my original post, as we are seeking DC area flutists and would be happy to have anyone, LGBT or not, to join us as long as they support our cause. It is flute related, so belongs in a flute forum.

As for children viewing this thread, this is a public forum (as you mentioned), and I am a member of the public. If you don't want your children reading this, then supervise their browsing or install software on their computer that will censor out all those issues you feel not appropriate for them.

I have been a member of this forum for several years and mentioned a few times that I play in an LGBT band. It hasn't been an issue before, so why now?

Sorry, I thought someone mentioned this was a public forum, but after re-reading the posts I see no one did. Well, I guess I did now! :-)

Wow, the things you miss when you're lost in the forest, trying to figure out which way the cows went...

I am saddened and disappointed that some folks on a this forum are going to vent their hate toward a group looking for flutists to play with their LGBT band.

That some forum members disagree with, and don't want their children exposed to, some of these subjects would be expected (otherwise, why is the LGBT fighting for human rights and discrimination issues?).

I do appreciate that evets is being polite. Thank you, evets, for being polite.

I do agree, though, that this is a public forum, and that this is legitimately flute related. As an example, I think nobody would have a big reaction to a request for flutists to play in a flute choir that plays only Christian religious music.

" Most guy flutist are g@y. Duh! "

Pardon me? Come again? Of all the famous male flutists I can only think of Jeff Khaner as being !*****!.

And what does it matter anyway? This is the most absurdly outlandish thread I've ever seen on this forum.

And who keeps voting down the posts from the people of reason?

Sorry, I think my last post may be interpreted as me being defensive because I'm a heterosexual male flutist.

I find no bother in atoriphile's post. It's 2009. Seriously. My family is Christian and I have a !*****! uncle who we all love dearly. He's a wonderful human being, not a freak of nature or a pervert. Your children WILL eventually encounter !*****! people. It's a fact of life.

Do you super conservative people take offense to black people having their own TV channels? All !*****! people I know say they have no choice in the matter. What's the difference between being born !*****! and being born black?

I agree completely with tim. I hate all of this hate towards the LGBT community. There is no need for censorship of this forum. There are many homosexuals in the community at every job. I guess these people don't like have a homosexual school teacher or music teacher. Heck, what about doctors, lawyers, bankers!

It saddens me that this sort of thing is so important of an issue on a flute forum.

I find no fault in a person suggesting a place to perform on flute but at the same time pointing out the nature of the organization so that people can make an informed decision as to their choices.

I do find fault in someone who passes judgment on others and consequently incites a lengthy and heated thread on the very subject that they so very strongly detest. Kind of like some guy going into a biker bar where he announces, "Harleys are junk!" and then waits for the inevitable to happen.

Relative to this issue "evets", The problem with all forums and your child is that your child CAN be exposed to anyone's opinion on anything. If you think that your child is old enough to browse the internet unattended and not find this subject, you are being unrealistic IMHO.

That being written, I see no point in discussing this subject on an internet flute forum.

People here DO advertise their heterosexuality when they:

**Write about their spouse and/or children
**Write or ask about music for their (or somebody else's) wedding ceremony

Now is THAT "flaunting" or "advertising"? I don't think so.

Think about it. Heterosexuality is "advertised" constantly in our society. So why shouldn't others get to "advertise"?
