I was at a second hand book shop while on my last trip to the UK and came across the 1959 "observers book of music". If you dont know, they are like pocketbooks to all kinds of things only really in depth. it has the history of all the instruments and one old type if flute is called the flageolet. it look a lot like an oboe and a flute crossed and i think it would be fun to learn to play. i havnt looked in depth but i was wondering if anyone else had heard of one, had one, or knew some thing about them. Thanx

A nice little web page:

http://www.flageolets.com/
".....Flageolets with which most people are familiar and are about 14'' or 35cm long. An ivory mouthpiece or beak leads into a conical airway which helps to compensate for any lack of breath control on the part of the player. The wind-way feeds into a barrel (as on a clarinet) which sometimes contains a sponge to help absorb moisture. Below this are usually two parts: the top-joint, containing the fipple and the bottom joint into which the tone-holes are drilled."
