I recently got an early flute, it's ceramic, and I can't find a fingering chart for it. It is a transverse flute and has 8 holes. There are 3 right hand holes, and four right hand holes. The right hand holes are index, then two holes for the middle finger, one smaller one staggered (similar to on a recorder), then a hole for the ring finger and pinky. If anyone has any fingering information that would be great!

Have you additional information on your flute? "early" alone may not hint to its origin, period, ethnic group...

Anyway, simply checking with a keyboard or piano the notes produced by sequentially lifting your fingers from right to left should give you a basic idea of the fingering and this could help in the identification of the type of flute. For semitones they are usually produced (whenever possible) by partial covering of the holes.
