I do not want to get mixed up in this but I think that PerrinLark mean that they have to play it in the upper register because the piece has a low b that they PerrinLark is unable to play on the current flute.

<Added>

Sorry about the spelling. It is meant to say means not mean.

In one of my books, its says to use the low B key when playing the high C (3rd octave). Only got a c foot on mine, so don't know if its right or wrong??

Mark86, using the B key for the 3rd octave is an option but if you do not have that key then you can finger the c the same way without the b pressed down on the foot joint. I hope that helps. here is a link for a very helpful fingering chart that goes up to the 4th octave c! I can only get to the 4th octave d sharp. http://www.wfg.woodwind.org/flute/fl_bas_3.html

Hi Emy.

Yes,,only having a C-foot, i know the fingering for high C, it was just that Perrinlark was saying about needing a low B key for the top octave, and i was wondering if that was what he thought he needed it for,, maybe he learned that if he had a B foot before??

Thats for the link to the chart though.

You really get off on this don't you? At least if you are going to make me feel stupid read what I have written first. The songs require the a B foot-which I don't have-so I have to play the songs in the higher register. I don't pretend to know anything, if I'm wrong correct me. In all honesty though, my age and lack of knowledge obviously offend you, so why don't you just write me off as a worthless person and leave it at that. I didn't come here to make people angry with my ignorance, I just needed some advice.

Well binx may not have said it all in the way you liked it, but she did give you some nice advice. Also, Jencluff's site is amazing, I go on it all the time. You should definitely check it out. Another excellent link to go for is http://www.fluteland.com/board/ In the General Topics section, there is a topic on the tippy-top as a Sticky called "Flute FAQ 2.0" Check it out. It has all the features explained, the metals, the brands, headjoints, etc. It really answers all the commonly asked questions. Hope that helps.

Spark, I am a he

I have at least five songs that I play in the upper register because they require a B FOOT, hence I would like a flute with said feature.

I DID read what you wrote. Go look at what you wrote. It made it sound as though you needed a B foot for the upper register. You should have been more clear like saying that you have to take five song up and octave and play in the upper register because you do not have a B foot. Don't get so bent out of shape! I don't get off on anything. I told you what the problem is. It is you that needs to read what I wrote. Some people are just too sensitive! If you can't take it, then don't post on the Internet where anyone can read and respond. You are pure ignorant.

Perrinlark,

If you are annoyed with people's advice, ignore it and take the advice from it. I know how you feel, because I have been playing the flute for 6 months and want to take grade 4. I too am looking for an intermediate flute, so I like this thread a lot! Some advice:
You wouldn't believe how much you can pick up just looking for flutes on the Internet! Just look around, and you'll learn a lot!
Also, binx, lay off just a little! We aren't experts, and we just came on here for help! You can tell us a lot!
Also, I don't think you need a b foot and key for 3rd octave C, do you? I can play it on my ancient B&H emperor which was probably made before the b foot was invented! ( Exaggeration, probably, but it is old!)
Anyway, try and make a list of all the good flutes you can afford, and see if you can try them. I suggest Flute World for the list making and the trying! They let you try a flute for a week at a time and you just send it back! Don't rule anything out, or be biased by that yamaha you tried!
Good luck!
P.S I mean 'we' as us people who haven't played the flute for long!

PerrinLark,

While Binx's response may have seemed a little condescending to you, I, for one, do not appreciate your language on this site.

Binx did go on to give you some worthwhile information, as did others. As someone else suggested, there is alot to be learned by doing your own research. But I believe you are fortunate that some even responded to you after your initial outburst.

You will find you get more help from knowledgeable people by listening to their comments and asking more questions. Not by asking the question, then attacking the responder.

goldenflute: Point taken, and I humbly apologize for offending you. You're right, no one should have to read that. If it helps, I am deeply ashamed. I realize that binx has given me some great advice, and for that I do thank him. It's his uncalled for abrasiveness that I just don't understand. I came with simple questions, I didn't not claim to know anything. This is a big decision for me and I'm stressed about it as it is without people attacking my lack of proper terminology. Most teenagers are ignorant, we try not to be but only with age does wisdom come. I'm simply a victim of my age. Thank you all for your help, goldenflute is correct, I did not deserve it. Again, I'm sorry for my behavior.

If you didn't come on here like such a little know-it-all then things would have been okay. So you are a victim of your age? You only MAKE yourself a victim by acting the way you do. I have met plenty of responsible teens that I have no problem with what so ever. If you are that stressed about getting a flute then why not seek the advice of a professional flutists. You must have a private teacher. Correct? Just go get your open holed flute with the B key already. Why not splurge and go for a B flat foot while you are at it!

PerrinLark,

Apology accepted! Its nice to have another face on here. Some people can go overboard in their responses. But spend enough time here and you will be able to look beyond the nonsense and gather some valuable knowledge. Just don't jump into a new flute purchase too soon! Make sure you do all your research so you don't regret the decision you finally do make. A good flute doesn't have to be for life, but should be for a long time.
