(uhmm, wanted to edit my earlier post... can't figure that yet... so......)

Can anyone say where Muramatsu EX headjoints are sold? I mean of course, aftermarket and separate from a flute. I might like to buy a used one at some point, but am almost afraid to ask, considering the prices I've seen for some others.

Muramatsu sells them. Look under Flute/Accessories. I haven't seen new ones stocked anywhere else.

Have you tried a Muramatsu headjoint that you have fallen in love with? Hand-cut headjoints vary greatly, and if you fall in love with a headjoint (on your flute) you should buy that specific head, as was mentioned before. If I may contradict myself, though, many people (myself included) have found that Muramatsu makes a flute with a solid and smooth mechanism, but a rather stuffy and lackluster headjoint. But, if it works for you...

If you're only looking at Muramatsu headjoints because everybody says they make a fantastic flute, you should really expand your search. There are plenty of amazing flutes and heads out there, but they don't work for everybody.
