A few years ago I purchased a Dana Sheridan custom headjoint with gold riser for about $1200, this is now the same model that he sells for $1600. I just noticed that Brio makes a flute with a Dana Sheridan headjoint and my question is, are these the same exact headjoints that Sheridan sells for $1350 (without the gold riser)?

I have seen some sites listing the flute, brand new for around $1000. How can it be cheaper to buy the headjoint with a flute, then to just buy the headjoint separately? It seems to me, that somehow the headjoint that sells with the Brio might be mass produced or a different one then the $1350 one. Can anyone fill me in that knows more about these headjoint/ flute combinations. If they are different, how can you tell? I inquire because I am interested in buying a Sheridan headjoint right now that I think is one of his customs... but don't want one that has just been taken off a Brio flute if there is a difference.

If you read carefully on the Brio website, the headjoint is designed by Dana Sheridan but made by Brio so it is not exactly the same as a headjoint made by Dana Sheridan.

Thank you, I eventually found a site that gave me a little more info. They are made by another person (can't remember his name), but were crafted by Sheridan. After looking at a few online pictures, I think the emblem on these is a bit different too then his customs. So I think you can tell the difference by the emblem imprinted on them, but I'm just not sure.
