I'm having a serious problem, I played flute for 7 years (from 1998 - 2004) but where I used to attend they dismissed me because I had a bad score in one of my presentations. Since 2004 I didn't play that much and I started wearing braces, now that I don't have them, I wanted to play flute once more but I encountered a problem, I cannot play no more, I can't blow in the right way and no sound is form. Does anyone knows how to fix this problem or does anyone knows someone whose been in the same situation?? Do you think that fixing my teeth screwed everything??

Well, if you have been playing for several years, you probably know that a good teacher is the easiest way to improve. Of cource you have problems when returning after a long hiatus. You need to do the right thing considering both breathing, air flow, embouchure, and what not. And the easiest way to get it right is by having someone who is skilled at observing what might be wrong to help you. Don't get discuraged if it sounds horrible at first. You will likely improve much faster than a beginner like me, and will get back to were you were pretty quickly.

I bought a semi-professional flute from a woman who had reached conservatory level playing but quit when she started having babies. She could hardly play it when she showed me the flute. I took 2 months off from paling my C flute when I bought my alto flute and it took me a few hours of practice before I could get the C flute playing again. So... just practice and it will come back to you.

i reccomend to just do what you would do if you were a beginner. remove the headjou=int on your flute and work on getting a clear soung out, with no vibrato,and once you get that out, you should slowly work your way up.

First of all, I should say I can completely understand your confusion and embarrassment, because I faced exact problem too. It certainly happened because your embouchure's gesture(sorry, I donno the exact word) changed through the years and those events. So, your former embouchure "gesture" can't handle current circumstances well enough to provide a tone.
I hope beneath tips would be helpful:
First, find a mirror. It helps you to supervise yourself. Remove the head joint and try to find a brand new "gesture" for yourself. Do you know why do you encounter problems? Because you are expecting from yourself something beyond your current ability. All of us spent a great amount of time at the beginning to find a good emboucher state. So, we expect our selfes to gain our previous abilities in our second try with lower effort. But this is wrong, cause its like the time when you wanna correct your inaccuracies. You have to spend much more time than normal learning state.
So, keep practicing. Do not give up, and remember, mirror and patience are your best friends!
