Hey!
So I'm in high school band and today we were playing a song (October by Eric Witicar its a great song) and my flute was way out of tune. so i got my tuning rod and checked to see if it was at the right place (you know that thingy that screws off the top of the flute?) and it was way out of its place.
I hadn't touched it at all... So i adjusted it and it went to normal but the top wouldn't screw back on all the way, so i put it on as far as i could and played the song for a few minutes. Then it was out of tune again so i checked it with the tuning rod again and when i went to adjust it again, the corkish thingy just came out of the head joint completely. and wouldn't stay in well.
I'm just trying to see if anyone else has had this happen. or if anyone knows what i should do... Thanks!

you need a new cork, go to a good tech and have a new one installed, is inexpensive

Might I suggest that you also make sure that in the future make sure you set up a greasing schedule? I am a brass player, but I play several instruments as well as having kids who play. A regular greasing/maintenance schedule really helps in the long run. Slides and cork need to be checked about once a week make sure that they are free from bumps or grooves and to be greased. And be sure that you are using the proper grease for the area you are checking. The grease that is used for keys is of a different composition than what is used on cork. It can erode the cork over time and make it fall apart.

Good luck! Believe it or not, playing an instrument can earn some good money in college as well as allow you to travel the world with only needing spending money!

When I first looked at this thread, utsusieq's post had a -ve vote. His post seemed quite reasonable so I voted for it to cancel the -ve post. Now ilovemybandies13's post has a +ve vote. Not sure what is going on so I thought I would explain for the benefit of any one else later who may get confused.
