ok, so for all the floutists out there who play other instruments, what was it easiest for you to learn? because i tried trumpet and after 6 years of flute the embouchure on trumpet was extremely hard for me to get high notes.. but when i played base clarinet for a semester for a concert i had no problem switching... so what was hard and easy for you to switch on?

Firstly, it is spelled instrument. I am guessing that was a typo. I don't play the flout, I play the flute. I am a flutest. As long as it is a wind instrument, I can blow it. I didn't say I could play good though. They are all difficult to me. The flute is the only one that comes easily for me.

Yes..I play the piano..it was much easier than the flute. There is less tone colo
ur and intonation control required. The soprano clarinet I like too with Grade 3 reeds. Once I change, I can't cope....but, the octave break take some smoothing efforts from me.

You're really lucky to play, the bass, clarinet. Its so beautiful.

It was much easier to learn how to play the flute when I compare to how it was to learn to play the oboe. Plying the oboe is probably the toughest you can choose to learn.

I second that, Trombi! I've been taking oboe lessons for about six months after playing flute for decades. Reeds are a curse and a frustration but when all goes well (and the temperature, humidity and moon phase are just so) oboe sounds absolutely gorgeous. Something that may be even harder is bassoon.

Alto Saxophone was considerable easy to learn after playing the flute. Aside from switching to reeds :P

Oboe is my primary instrument although I didn't start playing it until after two and a half years of flute playing, but I still have to agree that it is a harder instrument than flute, even though I picked it up quickly. But picking it up quickly was just a result of hard work, not because the instrument was easy to play at all by any means. And reeds really are a curse.

And then I also picked up alto sax for marching band, which was EXTREMELY easy. First off, flute and sax fingerings are pretty similar, but so are oboe fingerings too. However, producing a decent tone on saxophone is, to me, so much easier than doing so on flute or oboe. If you want to pick an instrument up quickly, I would suggest the sax.
