Hi
I am a 14 year old from england I am grade 5 clarinet and am teaching my self saxophone.I would also like to try the flute as I think its a great instrument however I dont want to sacrifice my current instruments is there anyone else out there who plays clarinet and flute or are they too different to play both like playing a woodwind and a brass ? What sort of flute would you recommend me to try and is the fingering system that much different apart from being vertical.
Thank you any help would be greatly apprieciated.

You do not know how happpy I am to hear this! In grade 5, I also taught my self, playing clarinet though. I was alright, but I wanted something else. My grade 8 year, I taught myself flute and I really liked it, so I stuck with it. Last summer, my grade 8 summer, I taught myself saxaphone and it was okay, but I didn`t take to it very well. In my personal opinion, they are all relitivly easy to play, and you don`t have to give up one instrument to play another. Of each woodwind, the fingerings are almost exactly the same, and easy to remember. I think you should take up any instrument you think you`d be interested in. And good luck! E-mail me if you have any more questions

Good to hear.

As for model I`d say go with a YAMAHA beginner model. The YAMAHA YFL-225S is a nice one to start off on.
