Hi! I'm sorry I can't give you a really specific answer, but what I can suggest is to go to a local music store and see if you can try out flutes. Or, you could check the website Flute World--they allow four day trials on their instruments. They do sell used and new. It would also be helpful to think about what you want on your flute--for example, open holes, in line or off set G, split E, high C facilitator,B foot, silver or plated? That can affect the price. In addition, think about setting a price before looking for flutes, that could help you narrow down your choice. I tried out a lot of flutes before upgrading (it really did help), and am really happy with my Yamaha. It may also be helpful to ask the band director/flute professor at your current college or University of Florida about what they recommend. Also, I don't know much about piccolo buying, but I think the same stuff above would apply. See what works from your budget, make a list of what you want, try out some possible choices, and in the end, pick one that makes you happy. I hope you find a suitable instrument(:
